The Expansive Ski Area: Snow-Sure Slopes for Every Level
The Deux Alpes ski area is an extraordinary playground, boasting an impressive 410 hectares of marked runs and 220 kilometres of interconnected pistes. Renowned as one of France's highest ski areas, it offers unparalleled snow reliability, largely thanks to the majestic Mont-de-Lans glacier, which reaches a soaring altitude of 3,600 metres. This makes Les Deux Alpes home to Europe’s largest skiable glacier, guaranteeing excellent snow conditions throughout the extensive winter season and even offering opportunities for summer skiing. The resort features a remarkable vertical drop of 2,300 metres, allowing skiers to descend from the glacier at 3,600 metres all the way to the village of Mont-de-Lans at 1,300 metres without needing to take a single ski lift.
The 2026/27 winter season is scheduled to run from November 28, 2026, to May 2, 2027, with high-altitude skiing extending further into May. Beyond this, parts of the ski area operate as a specialist training ground for elite athletes until early July, highlighting the exceptional and consistent snow quality. The ski area is efficiently served by 39 lifts, ensuring swift and smooth access across the mountain. To further enhance snow coverage, particularly during warmer periods or lower down the mountain, Les Deux Alpes utilizes extensive snowmaking capabilities, with 300 snowmakers covering 86 hectares of the slopes. It's also worth noting that since July 1, 2025, ski lifts, waiting lines, and ski slopes are designated smoke-free areas, contributing to a healthier mountain environment for everyone.
The sheer variety of terrain is one of Les Deux Alpes' greatest assets, with 96 distinct runs distributed to cater to every ability: 18 green, 47 blue, 17 red, and 14 black pistes. This ensures that whether you're a complete novice or a seasoned pro, you'll find slopes perfectly suited to your style and ambition. The resort's ski sectors include the highest domain on the glacier, Toura with its snowpark, the freeride zone of La Fée, the challenging Le Diable, and the sun-kissed Vallée Blanche.
